CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The stakeholder’s support in the 4th Infantry ‘Diamond” Division area of responsibilities led to the series of major armed engagements of the diamond troopers against CPP-NPA terrorist (CNTs) that resulted in the continues downfall of the CNTs this month of December 2019.
The two major armed engagements transpired recently in the hinterlands of Sitio San Jose, Barangay Durian, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte last December 4 and in Mt. Obulan, Barangay Banglay, Lagonglong, Missamis Oriental last December 10.
These engagements resulted in the seizure of CNTs hideout, two killed NPA members, and the captured of nine firearms (2-M653 rifles, 3-M16 rifles, 2-AK47 rifle, 1-M1 Garand rifle and 1-.22 caliber rifle) and the recovery of assorted ammunitions, four laptops, one generator set, medicines, food supplies, backpacks with personal belongings and various subversive documents.
The two killed NPA members were identified as Mervin Namatidong, 20yrs old, from Sitio Simontanan, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur and Benjie Tandayon, 24yrs old, from Sito Lantad, Barangay Kibanban, Balingasag, Missamis Oriental. The dead bodies were properly turned-over to their respective families in coordination with the Local Government Units.
The continuous downfall of the CNTs in the region is attributed to the growing stakeholders’ support who voluntarily provided timely information to our operating troops. Also, the declaration of the CPP-NPAs and their legal front organizations as Persona Non-Grata by the communities adds up to the dwindling mass base support to the CNTs which limits their maneuver space.
Meanwhile, MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal, Commander of 4ID said, “Our deepest sympathy goes to the bereaved families of the dead NPA members. Your government had been continuously offering them (NPA) an option to have a peaceful life with their families if they surrender and embrace the life-changing ECLIP package especially that Christmas is nearing.”
“The accomplishments of 58IB and 23IB and their convergence efforts with the Local Government Units, Local Government Agencies and other stakeholders in the region are highly commendable”, Gacal said.
“As we come near the holidays, the focus military operations will be intensified to ensure a safe and peaceful Christmas celebration in Regions 10 and Caraga, we will not put our guards down”, Gacal ended.
